After 10 years of construction works, dust, and traffic jams, the Flagey area seems to be enjoying a new lease of life and has the clear ambition to become a key cultural and entertainment actor in Ixelles. From 24 June until 5 July 2009, July 2009, Flagey will hold the XL Flagey Summer Festival which will feature a rich programme of music, cinema, and art exhibitions. Involving the Brussels Philarmonic, the Marni theatre, La Cambre, the Varia theatre, the Museum of Ixelles, and the architecture museum of CIVA, the Festival aims to show that whole area is a unified and flourishing centre of activity.
The famous yellow art deco ship-building which also hosts the Café Belga will no doubt be the hub of the bustle where people will be able to stop by for a few beers before or after going to see some weird old movies, listening to some rock or classical music, or looking at art pictures and paintings. The hippest of Brussels will surely stop there for a while – and so will The Lobby, of that you can be sure!
